Leftovers anyone?

I don't know about you guys but I'm stuffed.
We had a fantastic Thanksgiving. Enjoyed Tim, Sheila, Sarah and Philips' company and the good food and all that really good wine. And enjoyed the not so really good wine as well. The time really did go by too quickly.
A quick shout out to Wendy Spiro who could not make it this time around and was missed. Though we (maybe just the royal we) didn't get a chance to say hello on the phone, I did want to say happy thanksgiving and belated congrats on the exciting new adventure.

Pictures will be up in the next few days but a few quick tidbits.
Friday I will have some quick out patient surgery to ensure we don't get too crowded here at the Schutte House.
Monday I have my root canal done.
Enjoy one of the funniest pranks ever.

Yes, I am getting slack

thank-you very much.

We're just trying to get ready to host the turkey day festivities here at the Schutte House. Tuesday the first set of guest arrive, Sheila & Tim Spiro (AKA Mimi and Grampa Mooselegs) Wednesday Sarah and Philip fly into Wilmington. This will be week of firsts. First time we meet Philip. First time any of them meet Megan. First time Helena meets Sarah or Philip. First time we try a house full of guest with an infant here. Ought to be fun. Compared to last time we hosted the Spiro clan this really should be a piece of cake. Last time we'd just moved into this house.
Boy time flies.

So last post I promised pictures from the birthday party didn't I?
alright stop you're bellyachin'

So there you go, plenty of photos to print up and put on the fridge or you know they do make really good wallpapers.

Just a quick biy of info on the current Social Security 'debate'

Tom and Lisa go out

Before I share our night on the town here's some pictures of the famous Dr. Seuss tights Helena picked out.

Grandpa & Grandma Carol watched the younguns Friday night so Lisa and I could have a night on the town. We had a gift certificate to our favorite home town brewery, Front Street Brewery. Lisa had her usual Oatmeal Stout and I tried the IPA and then the American Wheat Ale. The india Pale was not good that evvening, in fact it was pretty bad. The wheat was good though.
I had the Rosemary Chicken, which while it was tasty I gotta say with all modesty, I do a better job with. Lisa had a Chicken Ceaser salad and enjoyed it. If anyone has a good recipe for ceasar dressing please pass it along.

Having stuffed ourselves but still having a couple of hours before we Megan needed to eat we took a stroll around town in the drizzle and cold. Eventually we ended up at Port City Java. We had a cup of joe- actually Lisa had a cup of decaf and I had a chocolate mocha shake- and we sat and listen to Jeff Miller performing live. Nice acoustic stuff, reminds me a little of the late Elliot Smith. Take a listen here.

We had a good time. Today Helena goes to a friends 4th birthday. There might be a pony there! Of course I'll take picture regardless

Mid week already?!

So we're about a third our way through November. Already?! Well that was quick. Maybe this current cold snap has frozen my brain. (This morning it was a balmy 32.5 degrees outside our window.)

Before I throw some pictures at you I'll pass along the latest cute Helena story.

This evening getting ready for a bath, there was a quite noticable red line across Helena's bottom. Couldn't quite tell if it was a scratch or just a mark from sitting on the edge of a chair or what so I asked her about it. Mistake. As you know, unlike the tree falling in the woods when no one is around an injury a child doesn't see just doesn't hurt - no question about it. They don't see it, doesn't hurt.
But I've pointed it out and now the wimpering and crying. Now she doesn't want to take her bath. (This part isn't really new, she's on her not wanting to bathe kick again). She and I go on and on. You need to take a bath. I don't want to. It will help your boo-boo get better. But it hurts.
Anyone whose ever been within two miles has heard this conversation so I'll jump to the punchline.
Helena heads out of the bathroom to show Lisa the mark on her butt. What happened Helena?

I got a radish on my bottom.

And now the pictures.

Ack! Who is the guy with Megan! Sorry for the small size on those pitures, seems I forgot to change a setting. Will repair before the next load.

Bengals shut down Cowboys 26-3

And by the way the Bengals now have the same record as Arizona, Tampa Bay, New Orleans, Chicago, Washington, Dallas, Kansas City, Tennessee & Buffalo. And doing much better than San Francisco or Carolina.

However grand Cincy is doing props must go out to our AFC central brethern the Pittsburg Steelers for crushing the hopes of another team of going undefeated this season.

yeah, we're ready for some football.

A day at the park

Well not the whole day, but the weather has been beautiful today so we loaded up and headed up to Ogden Park

Helena had some bubbles and had fun, for about two minutes with them.

Then we decided to take a walk around the park.

Somewhere during the day, Lisa dropped her cellphone. Yes, Lisa got one of the pre-paid tracfones so the Learning Center could call her when Megan was ready to nurse. No one else has the number. So why bring it to the park when you've got Megan right there? Because when you have a cellphone you take it everywhere. That's the rule. Stop asking questions, reader.
We discovered the phone was missing ask we packed up in the van. We unpacked and all retraced our steps trying to find the darn thing. No luck.
We get home and ta-da! No it's not sitting on the table or something. No, There's a message on the machine from the honest soul who found the phone and trying to find us so he can return it. (His name is David and I nominate him for 5642 karma points)

In other news, Helena is Lisa's daughter. While there was little doubt of this fact before, we now have photographic evidence to support the claim.

(that's her with a flashlight in one hand, a book in the other)

Night all

More photographs

And some news...

Megan can now roll over from her back to her side. For those who don't understand the significance to this, you obviously do not have infants in your home. Every new thing a baby does is a reason for a photograph and excitement. The real thrilling news is she is on a 4 night sleeping streak. We don't have pictures of that we hope you understand.

This is Megan and Ms Linda from The Learning Center,

where the girls go to school. It's a picture, it's suppose to worth a thousand words and few more won't really add much.

As was alluded to early this week Helena had her first dentist appointment. She was a bit timid but did fantastic. Ms. Kathy says did better that most kids twice her age, and unlike her father, Helena has no cavities.

But how is it that Helena has a healthy set of chompers? She eats her vegetables, especially the ones she grows herself!

Sorry for the delay

Been a week for news hasn't it? If you're visiting this page, you likely know the political leanings in this house. If you aren't quite sure, let me just say we're disappointed in the outcome on Tuesday. If I had posted anything in the past two days it you'd probably recognize a few of the classical stages of grief.
Having two small kids both makes it easier to move on from the election while at the same time fills me with fear of the world they'll be growing into. I still stand by my assessment from Tuesday that democracy was the victor of the day (vote certification not withstanding)

I would however like to pass along a letter written by a remarkable young man I met during the campaign.

Well guys & gals,

This is it. This is how it feels a day after our efforts and hopes dissipated to the reality of four more years of George W. Bush's America. I say his America, because it certainly is not the America that I enlisted in the Marine Corps to defend. No that was for my America. An America that stood for justice, unity, thoughtfulness, and served as a beacon of light, a shining example to the world of how democracy should work.

So what now? Do we continue to wallow in the mire of depression? Do we allow ourselves to succumb to the feelings of fear and despair over the future of our Party, our ideology, our Nation? I've been searching for answers the past 36 hours. I click on the DNC's homepage and am greeted with only the concession letter Senator Kerry provided for his supporters. Even the ever outspoken Michael Moore has but a photo of George W. compiled with images of the fallen in Iraq. Our so-called liberal pundits are filling the airwaves with talk of reconciliation with the Republicans and the necessity of restructuring our party so as to appeal to "real" Americans. So here we are. Leaderless, without direction. Alone.

Alone? Well that's what the talk shows, AM radio, and the pundits would have you believe. But it seems to me that 56,000,000 of my fellow Americans voted the same way I did on November 2nd. That's nearly 4 million more votes than any Democratic presidential candidate has ever received. Alone? Hardly. 56,000,000 of us chose truth over lies and deception. We chose workers over the exporters of jobs. We chose the middle class and working poor over the wealthiest of the wealthy. We chose choice over the suppression of women. We chose healthcare for all Americans over the profits of the insurance companies and pharmaceutical companies. We chose blood over oil. We chose compassion and intellect over ignorance and stubbornness. We chose PEACE over War! We chose change.

Well, where do we go from here? As powerful as we were, we came up short, true. Do we now lay down and sacrifice our morale convictions to appease the right? Do we scamper off to lick our wounds? Or do we follow the example of the prize fighter that hits the mat, his head aching, ears ringing, face bloodied, but his will remains unbroken, and he climbs back onto his feet to continue the fight?

See, unlike George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Donald Rumsfeld, Condoleeza Rice, Karl Rove, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, etc., etc., I know a little bit about war. And that knowledge reminds me that one battle does not win a war. Nor does it spell defeat for those that narrowly lost, lest they surrender. And I will not surrender this fight today or any other day. I will not cede OUR America to George W. Bush. We are 56,000,000 strong and OUR ideas are better. They're just plain better. They're worth getting up off of the mat.

God Bless you all and God Bless America!

So there isn't much that can be added to that except keep fighting for the better ideas, and America will do just fine.

Morning all!

Helena has her first dentist appointment this morning. Lisa has the camera and promises pictures. I neglected to grab the photos from trick or treating before she took it this morning so you'll all have to wait.

This morning Lisa headed out to the polls at a little before 7am. Line-one hour. After taking the girls to school I headed down there the wait had gotten down to about 30 minutes. It was a beautiful sight. Already nearly a million North Carolinians have voted early and it looks like today we may get record turn out. No matter who comes out on top this election, it certainly seems like democracy will be the big winner today.

I'll open up the comments, Click on time stamp below for the comment section. Topic: Elections thoughts
